'Food dudes' persuade children to eat greens
A modern version of Popeye, the spinach-guzzling cartoon character dating from 1929, is persuading children to eat up their greens.
In a primary school experiment, videos and lessons following the antics of four "food duded"- Rocco, Raz, Tom and Charlie- with a taste for healthy food, doubled the consumption of fruit and vegetables among pupils.
The scheme wad devised by food researchers at the University of Wales, Bangor, in an attempt to change the junk food culture in schools.
Last year, one in 20 children claimed to have eaten no vegetables in the past week, while one in 17 said they had not eaten any fruit.

When pressure is on, narcissists shine

Young men are just as likely as women to gossip and to ignore former friends, a study into aggression has shown.

Sarah forrest of Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge, USA, found that by the time men reached their early 20s, men and women were just as likely to use direct or indirect aggression, "One theory goes that once men develop social intelligence skills, they begin to develop indirect aggression, " She says. " the argument is, men catch up with women. We found no differences in the sexes at all. Men were just as gossipy as women"
